Simple Living Alaska
США
Добавлен 9 апр 2018
In 2018 we made the 2,500 mile trek from Oregon to Alaska. We downsized our house, our land, and our possessions in pursuit of a self sufficient dream. We landed at a tiny cabin surrounded by forest in beautiful Southcentral AK, never expecting we would be living "off the grid." Each day we face new challenges as we learn to embrace our life here in the wilderness of Alaska.

Spring Waterfowl Hunting in Alaska + Peking Duck
Spring is in full swing in Alaska with thousands of migratory birds showing up daily to breed and raise their young in the state's vast wetlands. A quick outing lands us a few beautiful birds to bring back to the cabin. Once processed and clean we try our hand at Peking Duck and are not disappointed with the iconic dish.

We begin the long and arduous task of starting our new garden. We prep the ground, gather compost and start sifting the native soil with our homemade screen. We appreciate you tagging along for our Ala...

Ariel - could you provide your sauce recipe?
Arielle,Are you guys expecting?🤔
YES, Muskrat's eat & chase ducks. Sorry
Hi, enjoy the content. Do you still own this property (dry, off-grid near Houston)?
Wishing I Was younger and wishing an a Alaskan take care you 2 and be safe from Alberta,
I love your new plates!
Hey I didnt even know AK had a spring waterfowl season! A 24hr brine really helps diving ducks be less gamey. Especially if you want to cook them more than rare. Great video as always! You guys do a great job editing and filming!
Diving ducks will submerge, hold on to vegetation, expire and stay under
Hmmm, I'm thinking you're keeping a secret.
Maybe something simple you could make would be a wooden tobaggan for picking up road kills actuallty pretty simple to make there are instructions on you tube just gotta soak the boards in some water to get them to bend for your skiies. The Idea is they are flat and just role the carcass on on rather then trying to lift them on a walled sled./ Just my two cents though.
yes i Love Love and love piroshki 😊i make them with like a pizza filling or just feta cheese or shredded mozzarella and sometimes i make them with jam like a sweet version 😊 endless possibilities with Piroshki 😊sometimes just empty no filling inside and then you can eat them with whatever you want 😅and of course i love liver just fried on a pan with onion
OOOO do /i see green chilie salsa going ion them tacoes. You guys know how to eat thats for sure another guy said you could do a pod cast on just the things you cook. Theres a canadian guy with two dogs is also a pretty decent cook he does camping pod casts some winter and some summer Mathew Posa is his name Ruger and of course Monte the collie fun to watch.
Beaver must've not been to bothered because it didn't slap it's tail on the water, at least that's what the one's around here have done when they wasn't too happy about me being there.
Great video Eric & Arielle! Definitely a different way to prepare duck at home by doing Peking, but it really looked like you nailed it. Thanks for sharing!!!
I wish my flyway had a spring season.
First time I ever saw a man trying to duck hunt in a red shirt lol 😂 love yalls show
How to watch your channel in order from the beginning! I on board in the middle and have no idea how you got to this point ! Thanks 🙏
How many feathers can a duck plucker pluck if a duck plucker could pluck duck. Beautiful feathers on those plucked ducks
The chickens are horrified LOL!
Good looking meal, made me hungry
Have yall thought about raising ducks? Duck eggs are amazing. When you go hunting again, look for eggs
I have to say what a unique video from you guys its great to see regular folks make peking duck... super impressed but not surprised
Amazing video, love eating duck
Another very interesting video Thank you 😊😊😊😊😊
cool!
duck down is no different than goose down, you could make quilts for your warmth
He may have winged the duck. I’m prone to doing that and the will swim under water into the grass to hide.
Never heard of a spring waterfowl season before ..
Try duck with some cranberry sauce!
3:55 your duck was stolen. culprit- sasquatch
Will keep the feathers for pillows or something, as a kid in Minnesota we would keep the feathers?
You are so lucky to be able to shoot more than one pintail in your spring season in Alaska. Fall season on the west coast (Oregon) we can only shoot one/day. They are beautiful and great tasting ducks! I like hunting and eating widgeon also. We like to stir fry breast meat of ducks with a similar sauce like the one you made. The meat tastes great with stirred fried veggies over rice. Just cooked some saved, frozen duck and goose legs from the fall season. in the instant pot last week. Meat falls of the bone and made great tacos! Thanks for the video!
Also cool thing if u add like paprika with flour on the side makes it up and then do the egg with the beer mix and flour and you just go back and forth two times you get really thick crusty breading
Arielle I think we eat too good. Priceless
Should try flour with egg and and little bit of beer then fry in oil preferably if you have peanut oil it makes everything so much better but other then that it all looks good 👍 gj
🩸🦟
Sea duck= diver duck Water duck= puddle duck. You identify the two by the back toe in the foot. Webbed toe= diving duck, straight toe with no webbing = puddle duck Unreal video and cooking!!!
I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED at 17:52.... did the kitty run up the deck and thru the door?
Y’all, I could hear the mosquitos! That hunt! The cooking! Yum.
Great video. Really enjoyed watching 👍👍
I have hunted ducks my whole life and have a number of vanishing ducks. I have seen them dive and never come back out again, even dabbling ducks will do it. Not saying that is what yours did, but they will go down and wedge themselves under stuff in the bottom. What a great video though. One of your best. I will take a hunt like that any day. Gorgeous birds. Thank you for taking us a long.
The chickens are like wtf u doin to my babies! mmmmm pickling 60 right now
Amazing what you guys are accomplishing!! Love the wolf?
Do the chickens get upset watching you pluck the ducks?😜🇨🇦
Love the chickens life on your homestead!!
😊 wonderful videos
That chicken watching you pluck the ducks was quite concerned 😂 like "Daaaaaang....." 😂
I simply could not deal with all those mosquitos. Not enough bug spray on the planet. I love that you're always trying new things. You've made me hungry for peking duck now!
I love you guys, I’ve grown up hunting and fishing since I was 6. My dad was a veterinarian and a consummate outdoorsman. I learned from a really young age all about hunting and fishing from him and I learned gardening from my mom and grandfather. Because of y’all’s passion I have rekindled my love of it all and I’ll pass it down to my grandkids era. Thank you.
